The coolest Hammond B-3 grooves, overlaid with great
ensemble and solo horn work from Nick Lane and Greg Smith
will have you grooving in your chair.
The
rhythm section is comprised of Red Young,
Hammond B-3 and Wurlitzer electric piano; Tom
Warrington on acoustic and electric bass; and
James Gadson on drums.
James
Gadson has an incredible resume as a drummer and
producer, including work with Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles,
Quincy Jones, Roy Ayers, the Gap Band, the Temptations,
and hundreds more.
Tom
Warrington has played bass for Buddy Rich, Julie
Andrews and dozens of serious jazz releases.
Red
Young's credits on Hammond B-3 and keyboards
include
stints with Joan Armatrading, Dolly Parton, Eric Burdon,
Juice Newton, Marcia Ball and numerous TV and movie soundtracks.
This
section just cooks and knows exactly how to nail
the "cool" style of this release. The grooves
bring to mind legends such as Jimmy Smith, Joey Defrancesco
and Gerry Mulligan. The excellent production values capture
that live "intimate jazz club" vibe, which fits
perfectly with the music. Add
Nick Lane on trombone and Greg Smith on baritone sax, and
this is one hip CD. The horn work is exceptional.
Nick Lane is a wonderful soloist on trombone
and Greg Smith shows incredible versatility
with his imaginative bari sax solos.
